TRANSIT ZONE is an authentic insight into the life of a refugee in the jungle of Calais in Northern France. The filmmaker spent 3 months during the winter in the camp living with the refugees in makeshift tents. 'Teefa' has fled the regime in Sudan with the dream to start a new life in the UK. But sneaking onto a truck to cross the border is difficult and the harsh conditions of the camp are taking its toll. Teefa begins to question the greatness of Britain and looks for other options instead.

NOTE OF THE PROGRAMMER Calais, the compulsory transit point for all refugees wishing to get to England, is a real hell. Between the waiting time spent in the miserable slums of a camp and the dangerous attempts to clandes- tinely cross the Channel aboard a lorry, questions arise in the mind of a young Sudanese. Calais, der unvermeidliche Durchgangs- ort für alle Flüchtlinge, die nach England wollen, ist eine wahre Hölle auf Erden. Zwischen der in elenden Bruchbuden eines Lagers verbrachten Wartezeit und den gefährlichen Versuchen einer illegalen Überquerung des Ärmelkanals an Bord eines Lastwagens, beginnt ein junger Sudanese, sich Fragen zu stellen. Er fristet sein Dasein schon viel zu lange im ‘Dschungel' und erinnert sich verbittert an seine Träume.
