The two directors depict four cases from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission implemented between 1996 and 1998 as a part of the government's conciliatory policies. ‘Black' and ‘white' perpetrators come face to face with victims and survivors. Can the search for the truth and forgiveness go hand-in-hand?

This documentary tells four stories of Apartheid in South Africa, as seen through the eyes of the Truth and Reconciliation commission. White soldiers who have killed ANC activists, black activists who have killed whites in political attacks: can there be forgiveness when the full truth comes out?

Con el paso de los años el proceso de reconciliación llevado a cabo en Suráfrica tras el final del apartheid se ha convertido en un ejemplo para futuros procesos de resolución de conflictos a nivel global, algunos de los cuales son enfocados por las películas de este Programa especial sobre la guerra y la paz. Este documental da cuenta de cómo fue la implementación de ese histórico proceso a través de las audiencias de la Comisión de Verdad y Reconciliación, a partir de cuatro casos reales que pasaron por dicho tribunal y que presentan cada uno a su manera los diferentes retos que implica buscar la verdad en un país polarizado y lastimado por la violencia. La verdad es en este caso el eje central tanto de la narración como del proceso que se llevó a cabo en la nación africana; se trata de una confrontación dura e incómoda pero que fue necesaria para garantizar que la opresión y la violencia que tuvieron lugar no se repitan. Sin ser complaciente ante las dificultades éticas y políticas que el modelo de justicia restaurativa presenta, esta película logra exponer con claridad y rigor en qué consiste este modelo y cómo afectó las vidas de las víctimas y victimarios.
