Zulu love letter is a psychological drama about two mothers in search of their daughters. Thandeka Khumalo is a single black woman journalist, and Mangi is her thirteen-year-old deaf daughter. The story is set in Johannesburg, a few years after the the first democratic elections. There is a thick sense of hope and optimism everywhere except in Tandeka's heart and home. She is unable to overcome the trauma of the apartheid and constantly sees the past in the present. An old woman, Me'tau, returns like a ghost into Tandeka's life.
The Zulu love letter is a secret project that Mangi is weaving as a last, desperate gesture to her mother. It is a beautiful cloth, drawn with colourful cotton and dazzling beads.
