The first shot in "Lebanon" rests on a field of sunflowers for a long time. Some flowers are drooping. The film then however takes place entirely inside an Israeli tank that loses its way during the first Lebanon war. An impressive yet also straightforward anti war movie that brings up the claustrophobic narrowness and the lack of orientation of the soldiers. The film won the Golden Lion of the Venice Film Festival. After a long murderous erratic journey the Israeli tank returns to the flower field. The well-known catastrophies happen. However, this time we are trapped inside the tank, together with the four soldiers - what we see of Lebanon is what the shooter gets in front of his crosswires. War in this tank means incredible noise, perspiration, oily walls and smoke. War is the feeling of being trapped.
