The 31st Durban International Film Festival (22 July - 2 August 2010) is proud to announce the 3rd edition of Talent Campus Durban from 23 - 27 July 2010, an intensive 5-day programme of workshops and seminars delivered by film professionals to enhance both theoretical and practical approaches to filmmaking. The 3rd Talent Campus Durban theme Focusing on Africa: Unleashing Talent in 2010 will focus activities towards the development and strengthening of partnerships between African filmmakers.

Talent Campus Durban invites filmmakers from Africa to apply to participate in these workshops and seminars, which take place in Durban, South Africa, over five days. In addition to specific activities offered by the Campus, the selected talents will have the opportunity to attend films and events at the 31st Durban International Film Festival.

Talent Campus Durban is produced as a cooperation between the Durban International Film Festival and the Berlinale Talent Campus, and Berlin International Film Festival and is supported by the German Embassy in South Africa, the Goethe-Institut South Africa and the Department of Economic Development - KwaZulu-Natal.

The Durban International Film Festival is organised by the Centre for Creative Arts (UKZN) with principle funding and support from the National Film & Video Foundation, HIVOS and the City of Durban.

(A) Qualification
Your application for the Talent Campus Durban will only be processed if you meet the following requirements:

1) You work in one of these areas: screenwriting, producing, direction, cinematography, acting, editing, sound design, film music composition, animation, art direction, production design, or video installation.
2) You have worked on at least one short film, OR you have had a film screened at a recognised film festival, OR you are a student in your final year at a film school or in a post-graduate film programme, OR you have experience in the film industry.
3) You have submitted a complete application in English, including a sample of work. Please note that the application is individual - we cannot accept team applications. You must have obtained the consent of the other copyright owners for the use of the work sample submitted.
4) You must be a citizen of an African country, currently resident somewhere in Africa and be at least 18 years of age on 23 July 2010. If not a South African citizen you must be in possession of a valid passport by 1 May 2010.

Please note the course will be conducted in English

(B) Application (consists of two parts:)
Part 1: Emailed application: First you must accept the conditions for participating in the Talent Campus Durban. Proceed to fill in the application form, to be emailed to talent@ukzn.ac.za and to talent.durban@gmail.com. A candidate number confirming receipt will be sent to you. Please email or call if you do not receive this number within 7 days.
Part 2: Submission of a sample of creative work formatted as per regulations.

Application Deadline
Deadline for receipt of your complete application is 15 March 2010. Applications and materials arriving after 15 March will not be considered. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Selection of participants
Participants will be selected at the sole discretion of Talent Campus Durban. Applicants selected for participation will be informed via email by 1 May 2010. The list of selected participants will be published on our website. There is no legal claim to participate in the Talent Campus Durban.
Reimbursement of travel expenses
Travel costs, accommodation and a subsistence contribution will be offered to participants. The amount will be determined on an individual basis and at the discretion of Talent Campus Durban.
