Cheb Azzeddine (in Arabic الشاب عزالدين), stage name of Benaouda Abed (بن عودة عابد in Arabic), born July 17, 1975 in Chlef in Algeria and died February 6, 2019 in the same city, is an Algerian raï singer.
Biography
Cheb Azzeddine recorded his first cassette in 1998 at Meftah editions in the city center of Chlef (Algeria). His first album, titled Ach Dani Lal Ghorba, was an astonishing success. He discusses the problem of illegal Algerians abroad in general and in France in particular.
Azzeddine is imprisoned because of a song, in which he talks about the Hogra (injustice) caused by local officials.
A revolutionary of new times, he has this rage for the country, the rage to change the bad into the good, to change the worst into the best. He hopes for a pure and hopeful Algeria for these generations to come. He is the new pride of "Bled", the singer Raï who does not mince his words and who does not hesitate to say out loud what others say quietly. It is true that it cost him a few months in prison but Cheb Azzedine will never remain silent against the poor functioning of Algerian politics.
He released his first album which he recorded under the Meftah label in 1998. Entitled "Ach dani lal Ghorba", it was inspired by the problems encountered by illegal emigrants abroad, which gave this first opus a rapid success. But the happiness did not last long, Cheb Azzedine was imprisoned for having released his flagship song "Chouf el hogra chouf" which did not fail to denounce the injustice caused by Algerian politicians. He was sentenced to 12 months for defamation and contempt of public bodies. The boss of the Fraternelle publishing house did not escape the same sentence either. They must both pay a fine to the civil party as damages for having commercialized this song.
He has several songs in his repertoire as well as those dealing with the problems of illegal Algerians abroad, starting with the temptation "Jaya mel Paris" dedicating an entire song to "El bhar" this gentle but raging sea which would take them away on the other side of the world, "ana oana brit" and "ana nstahel" are pure proof that they assume his responsibilities instead of lamenting his fate, without however forgetting to give the woman her value in "Karima", "Chaourat Fatma". His register is very varied and rich in morals drawn from his personal experiences. His texts, considered daring, were condemned by the court, but this did little to prevent him from continuing his career, mapped out for and by the people. Today he is one of the most popular singers in Algeria.
