"Peter Kubelka is born in Vienna, 1934. He studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematographia in Roma. Co-director of the Österreichisches Filmmuseum, he teaches Cinema and cooking at the Franckfurt Academy of Fine Arts and at the New York University, and in Chicago. In 1976, he has conceived the exhibition "Une histoire du cinéma" for the Centre National d'Art et de Culture Georges-Pompidou, including about 300 films of a hundred film-makers, from the origins of "cinema as art" up to 1976. Peter Kubelka always claimed to put the cinema where it can stands with every other art. He considers commercial cinema being a minor genre of the normal cinema he practices "one does not say that Joyce is an experimental writer". His working methods are based upon a complete memorizing of all image and sound elements, which are rigorously build according the complex laws of his metrical film theory. His films, not numerous but extremely condensed, take the cinematographic experience to a high degree of complexity and intensity grounded on some of the film projection fundamental processes : the darkness/light heat, white noise and silence, stillness/movement, the possible synchronization of image and sound at every 24th of second, the articulation between frames."
