Grow up between New York City and Rio de Janeiro. She graduated from Princeton University in 2000 with a B.A. in Comparative Literature. She made her documentary debut co directing A Normal Life in 2003 and won the Best Documentary Award at the 2003 Tribeca Film Festival. Youssou Ndour: I Bring What I Love (2008) marks Vasarhelyi's first feature length documentary film. Touba (2013) shot in Senegal too is her Second Feature Documentary.

Vasarhelyi is a critically acclaimed NYC based filmmaker. Her film "Youssou N'Dour: I Bring What I Love" screened at over 50 festivals, winning numerous awards. Credits include "A Normal Life" and "Touba". She is currently in post-production on "Mr. President" and "Little Troopers". She is a Sundance Fellow.
