Kader Attia
Film director, Fine artist
Principal country concerned : Column : Cinema/tv, Fine arts, Design

Born in Dugny (France) in 1970 to an Algerian family in a Paris suburb, Attia has quickly and forcefully imposed himself on the international art scene. His work explores questions of community, diversity, belonging and exile and the tangle of identity conflicts in the age of globalisation.

As a member of the North African community, Kader Attia has spent the past several years examining the tangle of identity conflicts that have contributed to recent difficult events. His art is rooted in the complex relations between East and West, and reflects the charged encounter between these markedly different worlds.
