Filipa César (b. 1975, Porto; lives Berlin) uses film as her primary medium. In her work she reflects on subjects of political and social significance.
Filipa César has exhibited, among other places, at the 8th Istanbul Biennial (2003); Museu Fundação Serralves, Porto (2005); Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2006); Tate Modern, London (2007); International Triennale of Contemporary Art, Prague (2008); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2009); 12th Architecture Bienniale, Venice (2010); Manifesta 8, Cartagena (2010-11); and in solo shows at the Kunsthalle, Vienna (2004); Solar Galeria de Arte Cinemática, Vila do Conde (2010); and Haus der Kulturen Der Welt, Berlin (2011). César has solo shows in 2012 at venues including MUDAM Luxembourg and Satellite Programme, Jeu de Paume, Paris.

Filipa César (Porto, 1975) is an artist and filmmaker interested in the porous boundaries between the moving image and its reception, the fictional dimensions of the documentary and the economies, politics and poetics inherent to cinema praxis. Since 2011, César has been researching the origins of cinema in Guinea-Bissau, developing that research into the collective project Luta ca caba inda (The struggle is not over yet). She was a participant of the research projects Living Archive and Visionary Archive, both organised by the Arsenal - Institute for Film and Video Art, Berlin.

Filipa César (Porto, 1975) vive en Berlín. Trabaja principalmente usando soportes cinematográficos. En sus obras reflexiona sobre temas de significado político y social. Explora la los rasgos de ficción que subyacen en las imágenes del cine documental y político. El lenguaje fílmico de su obra abarca la narrativa clásica, la crónica, el documental y el cine experimental.

Ha expuesto colectivamente en la Octava Bienal de Istanbul (2003), en Kunsthalle, Vienna (2004), en el Museu Fundaçâo Serralves, Porto (2005), la Contemporary Art Gallery de Vancouver (2006), y en la Tate Modern de Londres (2007). También en la International Triennale of Contemporary Art, Praga (2008), en el Museo de Arte Moderno de San Francisco (2009) y en Manifesta 8, Cartagena (2010-11). Asimismo ha expuesto en solitario en la Solar Galería de Arte Cinemática, Vila do Conde (2010) y Haus der Kulturen Der Welt, Berlin (2011). Para 2012, Cesar tienes exposiciones individuales en lugares como el MUDAM de Luxemburgo y el Satellite Programme, en el Jeu de Paume de Paris.
