Lindy Wilson Independent Producer, Director & Script-Writer

Lindy Wilson made her first film Crossroads in 1978, with a borrowed 16mm camera, when South Africa's apartheid government developed its forced removal policy, which displaced thousands of South Africans because of the colour of their skin. In 1983 she recorded the removal of one of the last families of 60 000 people removed from District Six in Cape Town, without trace. Later she visited the banished Dr. Mamphele Ramphele and recorded her remarkable clinic in a remote rural area. In the Last Supper In Horstley Street she showed the removal of one of the last families from District Six.

Robben Island Our University was the first film made (clandestinely) about the conditions and morale of political prisoners on Robben Island, three years before the release of Nelson Mandela. With negotiations underway for a democratic South Africa, she made A Travelling Song, about its transition and potential.
She has since made several documentaries and produced in 1994 the 16-part TV series of documentary films, Unbanned: Films South Africans Were Not Allowed To See, made by independent directors which South Africans had not been allowed to see under apartheid.
In 1993, she won awards for A Traveling Song and began to write fiction. This new course was disrupted when, for two years, Wilson attended sessions of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. She decided to tell the extraordinary story of The Guguletu Seven. This film was completed just in time for its World Premiere at Encounters South African International Documentary Film Festival (CAPE TOWN, 2000) on Wednesday 21st at 6pm.
The extraordinary cover-up by police of the murder of seven young men which was unravelled by the Investigative Unit of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission.
Her current film, For Which I Am Prepared to Die is a journey of discovery about the man who master-minded The Great Escape of World War 11, her uncle Roger Bushell.
