The company

Boondogle Films is a boutique company, specialising in films that meet African needs and challenge common perceptions of the continent.

The company is headed by producer Paul Egan and screenwriter/director Meg Rickards, who collaborate with a network of specialised freelancers.

Most recently, the company produced a feature-length documentary, 1994: the bloody miracle. The film, which counts down to South Africa's first democratic elections, was broadcast on eNCA and eTV throughout Africa as well as by the Netherlands' VPRO. The documentary won the audience award at the Durban International Film Festival, opened the Nobel Peace Laureate Youth Summit as well as the Watch Africa Festival in Wales. Boondogle Films also collaborated with the Nelson Mandela Foundation to screen the film at educational institutions throughout South Africa to initiate dialogue around democracy and the complexity of reconciliation.

Other productions by the company's founders include Forerunners (dir. Simon Wood/ prod. Paul Egan), an award-winning documentary looking into South Africa's new black middle class, and Orbis (dir. Simon Wood/ prod. Paul Egan), a short film selected for Hotdocs 2015.

The miniseries and television feature Land of Thirst (written and directed by Meg Rickards) has been broadcast throughout Africa, distributed in the US, and dubbed into French and Arabic.

Meg and Paul have also collaborated on a number of tertiary educational films. Boondogle has also provided scriptwriting services for the Sharpeville Six feature film project, currently in development, and UNICEF'S handwashing campaign.
