In 1990, DO Productions was formed by Marlow de Mardt and Brigid Olën, and in 1995 began producing independent productions. From its inception, the company has played an instrumental role in driving the development of the South African feature film industry. Beginning from its base as a production service company and expanding into co-productions.

DO Productions has built a solid reputation and earned enviable praise in providing its partners with exceptional service and expertise.

Production partners have included such companies as Capella, Nu Image, 20th Century Fox, NBC Studios, Traumwerk, Transparences, Tandem, Framewerk, Image et Compagnie, All Media Pictures Gmbh, Ferndale Films, Reason Pictures, Ziegler Films, Campos Creative Works Inc and Cologne Gemini Film Gmbh. DO Productions has also received numerous film industry awards, most notably for MALUNDE, which competed in 19 film festivals around the world and received numerous nominations and awards.

DO Productions has more recently become a co-producer in feature films with international appeal. The company has achieved success in this new era of the South African feature film industry, having completed co-productions namely DIAMOND CUT DIAMOND and SUMURU, both directed by Oscar nominee acclaimed director Darrel J Roodt and both British, Canadian, South African trilateral co-productions, and DARK KINGDOM: THE DRAGON KING, a German, Italian, UK, South African co-production directed by Uli Edel (JULIUS CAESAR, THE MISTS OF AVALON and LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN). As a result, DO Productions is aggressively seeking out exciting co-production opportunities.
