Inhalt
Erzählt werden die Lebensgeschichten des 1905 geborenen Gründungsvaters der "Redeemed Christian Church of Christ", Pa Akindayomi, und die seines Nachfolgers, Pastor E.A. Adeboye. Der Ältere wächst in einer Zeit auf, in der der animistische Glauben das Leben prägt. Dem Jüngeren erscheinen GottesWeisungen in englischer Sprache im Traum. Ihre Kirchengemeinde ist heute eine der größten Nigerias.

The Convenant Church ist eine der erfolgreichsten Produktionen Nollywoods jüngster Zeit mit dezidiert christlicher Ausprägung und Mission, finanziert von "Dove Media", dem kircheneigenen Medienkonzern. Es ist ein typisches Beispiel für die Bildsprache religiöser Filme aus Nollywood, die die Begegnungen mit dem barmherzigen, aber auch strafenden Gott in plastischen Special Effects zeigen. Von großer Bedeutung ist in diesem Genre stets auch die Darstellung des Konflikts zwischen fortschrittlichem Christentum und traditioneller Glaubenspraxis, die oft als Grund für Elend und Rückständigkeit gezeigt wird.

Synopsis
The film relates the story of the founding father of the "Redeemed Christian Church of Christ", Pa Akindayomi (born in 1905), and follows the traces of his successor, Pastor E.A. Adeboye. The eldest grew up in times when animistic beliefs ruled everyday life; as for the youngest, he received God's orders in English in his sleep. Today, their church is one of the most important in Nigeria.

"The Covenant Church" is one of the most acclaimed Nigerian film productions of these past years. Financed by "Dove Media", the church's media company, the film distinguishes itself through its resolutely Christian expression and motivation. A typical example of the iconographic language of Nollywood's religious films, "The Covenant Church" resorts to various special effects to depict encounters with a God who is sometimes benign, sometimes reproving. A further hallmark of the genre is the representation of the conflict between progressiveChristianity and traditional beliefs,which are often presented as a source of misery and regression.
