Lionel Newton is best known for his stage work with Mouth Peace Productions. Over the past ten years he and Andrew Buckland have collaborated on four projects, all have been highly acclaimed and toured internationally. Their most recent success, The Well Being, enjoyed a sell-out season in London.
On stage, Lionel has most recently been seen in the part of Estragon in Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot for which he won a Vita Award for Best Actor.
His movie credits include Les Blair's Channel 4 TV feature, Jump The Gun, for which he won the All African M-Net Award for Best Actor. Most recently his film appearances have been in Forgiveness, Gums and Noses and Jozi.
Lionel is often recognized on the streets of Johannesburg for his role as the notorious serial killer in Isidingo, one of the country's longest running TV dramas. Lionel studied at Cape Town University from 1986 to 1988. He has acted in over thirty plays for which he has won several awards.
