Warda MOHAMED is a Film Director and screenwriter.
She is known for "Rocks" (2019 | Casting, Production assistant, Consultant Somali Language), "Sorry My Somali Is Not Very Good" (2021 | Director, Screenwriter), "Muna" (2023 | Director, Screenwriter).
Biography
Warda began her film career assisting on Sarah Gavron's ROCKS, where she consulted on elements of Somali representation. Her first experimental short "Sorry my Somali is not very good" premiered on BFI Player in June 2021 and has been screened at BFI Southbank and at Aesthetica Film Festival. She is an alumna of the BFI NETWORK@LFF talent programme. She works also as director and writer for the stage.
BBC FILM-backed "Muna", is Warda's debut narrative short: it made its International Premiere at Berlinale 2023 and is currently on the festival circuit. The film was nominated for Best British Short Film at the British Independent Film Awards and at the London Critics Circle Film Awards, and as well winning Best Short Film at the British Short Film Awards.

The filmmaker and screenwriter began her film career assisting on the 2019 production of "Rocks" by Sarah Gavron, where she consulted on elements of Somali representation. Her experimental short "Sorry My Somali Is Not Very Good" screened at BFI Southbank and at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival. She has also worked as a co-director in the theatre. An alumna of the BFI Network @ LFF talent programme, she participated in the writers' room for the British TV comedy series "We Are Lady Parts" by Nida Manzoor.
"Muna" was nominated for Best British Short at both the British Independent Film Awards and the London Critics' Circle Film Awards and won Best Short Film at the British Short Film Awards.
WHO ARE WE ("We Are Bridge")
Warda is a BIFA-nominated writer-director. She began her career as production assistant on ROCKS, where she consulted on the elements of Somali representation within the film. Since then she has worked with Nira Park & the Complete Fiction team, as the assistant to Roger Michell on THE DUKE, and in the AD team on Edgar Wright's latest - LAST NIGHT IN SOHO.
Her debut narrative short, MUNA, premiered at London Film Festival was nominated for a BIFA & Critics' Choice Award before heading to the prestigious Berlinale. She's currently developing her debut feature, MOON.
She is the Co-Founder & Special Projects Director for "We Are Bridge" (founded in 2018, began as an aftercare programme for the cast of ROCKS, by a collective of the filmmakers behind the film).

Warda inizia la sua carriera nel cinema assistendo Sarah Gavron per "Rocks", come consulente in materia di rappresentazione degli elementi identificativi dell'identità somala. Il suo primo cortometraggio sperimentale "Sorry my Somali is not very good" è presentato in anteprima sulla piattaforma del BFI nel giugno 2021 e poi al BFI Southbank e all'Aesthetica Film Festival. È alunna del programma per autrici e autori BFI NETWORK@LFF. Si occupa anche di regia e scrittura per il teatro. "Muna", il suo primo cortometraggio di finzione, supportato da BBC FILM, è presentato in prima mondiale alla Berlinale 2023 e sta viaggiando attualmente nei festival di tutto il mondo. Il film è candidato nella categoria Miglior Cortometraggio ai British Independent Film Awards e ai London Critics Circle Film Awards, e vince Miglior Film, Miglior Attrice (British Short Film Awards 2023) e Premio CINIT (FESCAAAL 2024, Milano).
