On 11 December 2013, HRH Prince Constantijn will present the Principal Prince Claus Award to Egypt's poet of the people, Ahmed Fouad Negm. Negm is known for his outspoken and critical poetry, and is much loved throughout the Arab world. Ten other artists, thinkers and organisations from countries such as Pakistan, Paraguay, Benin, Mexico and Indonesia are also being honoured for their pioneering work in culture and development. For the first time ever, all 11 laureates will be present at the ceremony in Amsterdam.

The additional ten recipients of the Prince Claus Award are: Zanele Muholi (Photographer, South Africa); Naiza Khan (Visual artist, Pakistan); Teater Garasi (Performing arts lab, Indonesia); Alejandro Zambra (Writer, Chile); Orquesta de Instrumentos Reciclados Cateura (Youth orchestra, Paraguay); Oscar Muñoz (Visual artist, Colombia); Idrissou Mora-Kpaï (Documentary filmmaker, Benin); Lu Guang (Photographer, China); Carla Fernández (Designer/Cultural historian); and Christopher Cozier (Cultural activator/Visual Artist, Trinidad & Tobago).

The Principal Prince Claus Award will be presented to Ahmed Fouad Negm by HRH Prince Constantijn during the official ceremony at the Royal Palace Amsterdam. This event will take place in the presence of members of the Dutch Royal Family. The ten remaining laureates will receive their awards from the Dutch ambassador in their country of origin. The laureates are chosen by an independent international jury.

Through its annual Prince Claus Awards, the Fund honours eleven outstanding artists, thinkers and organisations whose cultural and artistic actions have had a positive impact on their countries' development. They are often role models and are an important source of inspiration for all those around them.
