Established in 2005 by husband and wife team, Naeem Biviji (who was born and raised in Kenya) and Bethan Rayner, Studio Propolis is a full service design workshop focused on crafting beautiful, imaginative, quality spaces and products. Our projects are designed to order and hand crafted by ourselves at our work space in Nairobi's Industrial area.

Naeem and Beth bring their skill as UK trained architects and furniture makers to create designs and furniture of exceptional quality.

The studio, which makes bespoke interior furnishings that are all crafted by hand and works on select small-scale architectural projects, takes its name from the resinous binding agent produced by bees to fix and varnish their honeycombs. Unlike beehives, which have a simple hierarchy – there is a queen bee, male drones for mating purposes and sterile female worker bees – Studio Propolis has no hierarchy. Biviji and his wife do all the work, mostly by hand, in a small workshop in a Nairobi industrial township.

"We believe in a close relationship with our clients and from concept to completion you will receive our individual attention, often resulting in unique pieces for each situation.

We are always prototyping new work and alongside our one-off projects, we have a growing collection of handmade furniture."
