Sheikh Imam Mohammad Ahmad Eissa, born in 1918, is famous throughout the Arab world for his folk songs critical of the ruling classes. Considered the voice of the oppressed, he was banned from state television and radio and was imprisoned on numerous occasions, notably in 1974 during the visit of President Nixon. Featuring scenes of Egyptian street life and his often caustic musical criticism of the upper classes of his native Egypt, the sheikh's message is: "If a beautiful thing is suppressed today, it will be resurrected tomorrow." .
