SMALA is a media outlet dedicated to the richness of Algeria's culture, entrepreneurial spirit, and centuries-old historical depth.

Originally, Smala is a word from the Algerian Arabic dialect, meaning family or clan. In 1843, Emir Abdelkader formed his Smala, a mobile court composed of his family, advisors, and soldiers, to resist the French invasion. This word embodies conviviality, solidarity, and a direct link to the very essence of Algerian history.

Smala highlights the beauty and diversity of Algerian culture. Every story, every tradition, every work of art deserves to be celebrated and shared with the world, to tell our own story, to document it, and to pass it on to future generations. Understanding the immense Algerian identity and its past is key to better building the future. But also to connect the community dedicated to Algeria and create positive synergies for a caring and resilient collective. Celebrate the successes of Algerians wherever they are.

In April 2025, Smala will create a buzz with the Smala AwarDz, a unique ceremony dedicated to recognizing Algerian talent around the world. This prestigious event will reward exceptional individuals in various disciplines, highlighting their achievements and contributions to Algerian culture.
