Several artistes have the chance to showcase their works when they unite for the inaugural Chiredzi Arts Festival that will be held at the Civic Centre in Chiredzi. For years some artistes from Masvingo province have not yet showcased their works on some big festivals such as the Harare International Festival of the Arts.

The three-day fête that will run from August 28-30 this year will see several artistes from Masvingo province showcasing their artistic prowess. Spokesperson of the festival Chris Musabayana said they have decided to have the festival so as to parade different talents in the Lowveld.

"We have artistes from Chiredzi who have failed to make it to some big arts festivals like HIFA and we felt there is need for us to bring them together and have a festival," he said.

Musabayana said this year's edition of the festival will focus on the locals with emphasis in quality.

"Artistes will showcase their artistic prowess and this time we more worried with the quality produced by the artistes," he said.

For him the festival will grow bigger as they go but for now they will only focus on local artistes.

"We have plans to have a bigger event incorporating different people from different parts of the country but for now we are focusing on talent in Chiredzi and other surrounding areas," he said.

Performing and visual artistes have already registered to take part in the cultural fête that is likely to give artistes from Chiredzi a chance to showcase their talent.
