The organisers of the Sunbird Sand Music Festival led by musician Lucius Banda have now announced the dates for the festival barely three days after revealing the shifting of the festival from August to October.

The organisers in a press release have also called for artists to make applications to participate in this year's festival scheduled for Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.

According to the press release, the sixth edition of the festival will be held on October 30 through to November 1.

The organisers have also said that the festival is back this year having run successfully last year.

"As usual, Sunbird Sand Music Festival will hold the Clean Senga Bay Campaign which this year will be on 15th October 2015. Tickets to the festival will be sold at the following prices; advance tickets: K15, 000, tickets at the gate: K20, 000," reads the statement.

The organisers have also called for support and partnership as well as applications from artists adding that this year the festival will showcase several activities from music, poetry and fashion.

The Sunbird Sand Music Festival was born in Mangochi following the frustrations of musician Lucius Banda and reggae group Black Missionaries some years back after they were paid peanuts during the Lake of Stars Festival.

The festival has failed to keep its stability in terms of dates as it started in September in Mangochi before shifting to early October where it clashed with Blantyre Arts Festival. It then moved to the month of August taking place at Sunbird Livingstonia.

Lucius said on Monday that they have reviewed the festival after making consultations and that now their focus is on local artists.

"With the experience of last year where it was cold in August, we have decided to shift to October which is hot. We have always said that this is a festival for Malawians and this is why we are targeting local artists having noticed that other festivals are concentrating more on foreign acts," said the musician.

He then said the biggest challenge for them has been lack of support from the corporate world. The musician said he was optimistic that this year they will have more support.
