RENOWNED local photographer Nyadzombe Nyampenza's pictures have been featured in Hong Kong-based organisation Global Institute for Tomorrow (GIFT)'s photo book, The Other Hundred, which unravels the untold stories of small business entrepreneurs around the world.

Nyampenza is the first ever Zimbabwean to have his pictures featured in the GIFT project's second edition which attracted 9 000 pictures from 130 countries.

In an interview with NewsDay, Nyampenza said the book specifically focused on entrepreneurship and becoming a platform to vividly showcase the likeness of everyday life in the world and his work has magnified local ability.

"This book unifies humanity and shows basically that we are all the same and live our everyday lives in similar ways as supporting our families and sustains life.

"I was not randomly picked, but there were entries and my work was selected and I think it has put Zimbabwe on the map and proved wrong social media sentiments that nothing happens here," he said.

He said it was important for local artistes to be appreciated at home before the world can recognise and show interest in them.
"We ought to celebrate our own accomplishments as a nation and doing so will influence artistes to reveal untold stories and raise interests beyond our borders," he said.

The unique non-profit photo-book which was first published in 2014 is aimed at providing a counterpoint to the mainstream media consensus about untold social issues.

It seeks to shift focus from the usual talk about wealth and other widely reported matters to the underlying news that in most cases affect many people.
