The Centre for National Culture seeks to harness the diverse artistic resources of the region for the promotion of integrated regional culture. The Volta Region is a unique region which cuts across all the major geographical zone of Ghana. It serves as the eastern boarder to Togo. From this unique position, the culture of the people is diverse, rich and unique.

The region has 15 administrative districts. The Centre, however, has offices in 13 of these 15 districts. The Centre for National Culture is conscious of the heterogeneous nature of its people and aware of the essence of culture as a pivot of nation building.

In view of the above and as a policy of unearthing hidden talents and encouraging creativity as both local and exportable commodity, the Centre has outlined some dynamic programmes. This includes Kente weaving for young people at Akatsi. Twenty students are currently under training. Other programmes include a newly set up Tie and Dye Training Centre at the regional offices. There is also a yearly STUDRAFEST programme. This involves senior secondary school students in dramatic performance. This is a joint partnership between the Ghana Education Service and the Centre, this programme is in its 5th year this year (2006).

In other districts, joint ventures and programmes between the local district assemblies and our offices are in shape in all spheres of endeavour.

The regional office of the Centre has now moved into its permanent offices at Ho. Though the edifice is yet to reach completion level, the staff is making do with whatever space is immediately available.

The Volta Regional Centre is hopeful that in the near future when the regional theatre is completed, lively programmes will be run for the people's benefit. The prospects are high as we have a beautification plan for the Centre as well as an oil palm plantation project which is thriving very well.

To promote effective cultural management for the socio-economic development of the region and the nation at large, we look forward to the holding of powerful events at the centre on weekly and daily basis.
