The meeting of two men of culture about a history book, "L'empire peul du Macina" ("The Fulani Empire of Macina"), the last and prestigious theocratic empire founded in Mali by a Fulani pastor and which shortly precedes colonial penetration.
Amadou Hampâté Bâ, great traditionalist, historian and philosopher, tells Pierre Dumayet how he managed to achieve this historical work from the many testimonies patiently collected from those who still preserve and retransmit the oral tradition, whatever their ethnicity - Fulani, Bambara - or their social class - pastors, peasants, fishermen, marabouts or scholars.
Images of Macina, between Mopti and Djenné, illustrate the words of Amadou Hampâté Bâ.
