Cece MLAY (Cece Mlay) is a Filmmaker.

She is known for "Apostles of Cinema" (2023, Co-Director), "Le Tombeau Vide | The Empty Grave" (2024, Co-Director).

The filmmaker comes from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and is currently working as an assistant director and creative supervisor at Kijiweni Productions. Her work ranges from mentoring young filmmakers in Tanzania to film production and exhibition. She has collaborated with artists from various disciplines and backgrounds on projects produced both by Tanzanian and international filmmakers which take a critical and honest look at social, political and historical issues. "Das leere Grab" (The Empty Grave", 2024), co-directed with Agnes Lisa Wegner, is her debut feature film as a director.


Cece Mlay enjoys the communal work of filmmaking. She has been working through different departments collaborating with artists from various disciplines and backgrounds with the projects being produced by both Tanzanian and international filmmakers. Her work ranges from tv series, award winning feature length and short films and documentaries: "Siri ya Mtungi" (2013-2014), "Shoe Shine" (2014), "Aisha" (2016), "Vuta N'Kuvute" (2021), "Apostles of Cinema" (2023).

She is Member of Ajabu Ajabu
Ajabu Ajabu is a collective of audio-visual practitioners based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, who work on the preservation, production, and presentation of audio-visual art. Their work is centred around collaborative curatorial interrogations related to deconstructing bias across film cultures, platforming under-represented narratives and modes of storytelling, and promoting amateur and experimental practice. visit ajabuajabu.com
