For three decades, my work has extracted the aesthetics of natural sources and formed them into sculptural compositions. I want the smallest child or the untrained eye to reach an awareness of the beauty around them and to come to the realization of the miracle of nature in a simple rock, branch, pod, or leaf.

At Gray's School of Art in Scotland, my training in oil painting required many field trips across the natural landscape. It was here that my interest in nature's line, texture and colour developed and became a large part of my sculptural work.

On returning to Barbados in 1965, I was employed by the Barbados Development Board to implement a national weaving project. Observing the limited raw materials used by traditional craftspeople, I was inspired to source new indigenous raw materials. Many Sundays found me and my family driving through the country and gathering anything interesting and lasting to include in my creations. To this day, my adult sons enjoy treks in the wild and still bring home anything they think I will appreciate.
