MALAWIAN singer Skeffa Mulongoti Chimoto will be the guest artiste when local celebrated gospel outfit Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Voice of Mbare record their debut live DVD this Friday at 7 Arts Theatre in Harare.

The Lilongwe-based musician will be returning to Zimbabwe for the second time having been in the country last year December for a familiarisation tour that also resulted in him recording with the group.

Chimoto has featured on three songs composed in Shona (Nyasha), English (Freedom) and Chichewa (Ambuye Alinane) off CCAP Voice of Mbare's forthcoming album titled Flash-Back that will be unveiled at the concert.

Gospel enthusiasts will be in for a treat as the event is expected to attract hundreds of fans across the country with Vabati VaJehovah, Thembalami, veteran musician Machanic Manyeruke, Eternity New Generation Choir, CCAP Sakubva and CCAP Holy Youth being supporting acts.

Voice of Mbare chairperson William Mikaye said in an interview that Chimoto will jet in on Thursday ahead of the concert and urged people from all walks of life to attend the gospel show.

"This is an important project that has seen us exchanging a lot of ideas with Chimoto. As a way of cementing our relationship with him, we will be going to Malawi for some live shows," Mikaye said.

Mikaye said the live recording DVD will carry 12 songs.

In an exclusive interview with this publication during his familiarisation tour in December last year, Chimoto applauded the collaboration adding that alliances bring new dimensions to artistes' careers.

"Music has the power to unite artistes and I am happy to be featured on CCAP Voice of Mbare's album. This is just the beginning and if any Zimbabwean artiste feels they want my service on their project, I am open for collaborations," Chimoto said.

Mikaye said they will be going to Malawi for some gospel shows where they will also be supported by Chimoto as a way of marketing and taking their music beyond borders.

"We are planning to go to Malawi, South Africa and Zambia and hold some shows in order to market ourselves regionally. After touring the region, we will then focus on other places and that is what we have in our future plans," Mikaye said.
