One of Zimbabwe's fastest growing festivals is calling all talented poets, singers, emcees, b-boys, deejays, film makers, producers, musicians or fashion designers to apply for the 2015 edition which will be held from September 24 to 27.Shoko Festival coordinator Natalie Kombe said this year's proposals should focus on outlined lines:
"The broad expectation this year is to strengthen Zimbabwean participation in all spheres in society so that more participation is granted to local artistes who promote urban culture and are geared to express themselves freely to affect a positive social change.
"This year's edition is about breaking down the barriers between media, culture and activism to create dialogue, progress and cutting edge new urban culture," she said.
Kombe said the application forms are now available for downloading at www.shokofestival.com or at Magamba Network, 12 Tudor Gardens Corner Mazoe St & J Tongogara in the capital. All Zimbabwean residents are illegible to apply for a chance to showcase their creative art and work.
Shoko Festival will be giving special consideration to artistes offering creative collaborations and out-of-the–box productions.
The deadline for applications is June 1 2015. Successful applicants will be contacted with the necessary details. Young dynamic, fun artistes should apply now to be part of Zimbabwe's most dynamic international urban arts festival.
The overall objective of Shoko Festival is to create an artistic platform that contributes to the artistic development of young people in Zimbabwe. Shoko includes live concerts, comedy night, DJ parties, a poetry slam, a cultural conference and workshops.
The festival also aims to provide youth with essential skills training and opportunities to help prepare them for various careers in the arts industry.
