On the Senegal River, a fisherman makes a strange encounter. A film that addresses the essential relationship between man and his environment.
This film was made collectively in the framework of the film workshops of the OPEN SAHEL FESTIVAL. This international event, which celebrated its 5th edition in February 2020, is located in Mboumba, a village symbol of culture among the Fulani of the Senegalese Fouta. It was born out of the desire of Senegalese and French artists to make culture more accessible to the populations of this region and to preserve the heritage by reactivating it in artistic creation.
The "Ciné Gourel" workshops are coordinated by the Senegalese director Hamidou SOW, accompanied by Charles SECK, Senegalese director, and 5 French speakers: Sébastien AUBERT, producer (Adastra Films), Guillaume HOENIG, cinematographer, as well as the actors Guillaume JACQUEMONT, Alice ALLWRIGHT and the director Maylis DE PONCINS.
During 2 weeks, they supervised 17 young people, students or self-taught, on the making of this short film, with the active participation of the inhabitants of Mboumba. This training allows young people from the Saint-Louis region to acquire skills, to immerse themselves in their Senegalese culture and to tell their own vision of the world, based on their heritage.
Daali-O is the first animated film from the Ciné Gourel training course. Addressing the relationship of populations to the river and the problems linked to development, Daali-O is part of GLOBE's collaboration with the GENEVA WATER HUB.
