Kamal Shah has his heritage in 3 contiinents: Africa, Asia and Europe. He was born in Kenya, studied in Europe and has much of his cultural and artistic inspiration from India, a country that he visits frequently and often also works from there.
Following his education in the UK which included a postgraduate diploma in textile design, Kamal returned to Kenya and became one of the leading textile designers through his company, Kichaka that specialised in printing African textiles. After several years doing this, he chose to move fulltime into painting.
His work often draws imagery from his multi-cultural background and therefore depicts this rich diverse heritage in his paintings. The name Kamal means "Lotus" in Sanskrit and this is also a recurring image and theme in his work. The artist uses colour in an uninhibited way to create his striking works.
This work has been shown in various parts of the world including in his home countries of Kenya and India. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions over the years.
