Mauritian filmmaker and Visual Artist.

Kim YIP TONG is a multi-disciplinary artist from Mauritius.

She is known for PIE DAN LO (BLACK TIDE) (2024), "Lucent Matter" (2016), "Anthozoa" (2017).

She studied textile design in Paris and London, earning a master's degree in Information Experience Design from the Royal College of Art in London in 2017. Her current research focuses on natural history and postcolonial identity. Her practice includes kinetic installations, video mapping, painting, artistic direction, and music video production. She has created two planetarium animations, "Lucent Matter" (2016) and "Anthozoa" (2017), showcased at international festivals. Her work has been exhibited in various countries, and she is a professor of contemporary art at the ENSA Nantes Maurice School of Architecture.

Working across analogue and digital mediums and media her practice includes interactive and kinetic installations, art direction, cinematography, animation, painting and textile art.
Her research focuses on post-colonial identities in the context of the ecological crisis.
Collaborating with individuals across disciplines, including musicians, scientists, dancers and artist collectives, her work reflects on inter-being and how we cohabit this planet by investigating ways of relating to, understanding and engaging with the living world.

Kim graduated from the Royal College of Art's School of Communication in Information Experience Design in 2017 and has been living in Mauritius since.
Kim is a visiting lecturer in Contemporary Art at the University of Architecture ENSA Nantes Mauritius. She has participated in international festivals including Annecy International Animation Festival, Sonar +D Barcelona, Blue Dot festival in the UK, Jena Fulldome Festival in Germany and Porlwi by Nature in Mauritius. She has exhibited in India, Singapore, Mauritius and Europe and had had 2 solo exhibitions at the Sunbury Embroidery Gallery and Art Panorama in the UK.
