Established by Decree N°00-630/PRM on December 19 2000, by the President of the Republic of Mali, His Excellency Alpha Oumar Konare, the Mission for the African Academy of Languages, (MACALAN), it became the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN) in January 2006. ACALAN is a Specialised Institution of the African Union mandated to develop and promote African languages in all the domains of society.
