UNE NUIT A ALGER

Blonde dans la Casbah (Blond in the Kasbah)

Délice Paloma
Film by Nadir Moknèche, presented by Biyouna and the director.

Biyouna, the charming, tempestuous Algerian diva, transcends all musical styles, moving from a swaying chaâbi to a voluptuous Arab swing. In his most recent film, Délice Paloma, Nadir Moknèche has once again called upon his favourite actress to play the role of Madame Aldjeria, the queen of petty dealings.

With Blonde dans la Casbah, Biyouna turns back the clock to her first creative adventures of the 60s when her dreams were still intact. Blonde is a cabaret-style album, brimming with delicate instrumental arrangements ; piano, violin, brass, guitar and mandolin. She sings of her disenchantments and her heartbreaks with a touch of impertinence and in a range that is alternately funny, moving and theatrical. Maryline, the ‘platinum blond in the Kasbah', reincarnated as a North African, is in fact her mother Djamila who died at the age of 84. She also does a cover of Demain tu te maries as a tribute to Patricia Carli who was a musical influence throughout her youth. This album gives forth a feeling of freedom - the freedom of a woman who dares to let herself be guided by her emotions and is not the least bit concerned about what others might think.
Biyouna became known to the film world in France when film director and fellow-countryman Nadir Moknèche chose her to star in Le Harem de Madame Osmane (Madam Osmane's Harem) and Viva Laldjérie. In Moknèche's latest full-length film, Délice Paloma, she plays Madame Aldjéria, a mafia queen and petty thief.
So you need a building permit ? You're alone for the night ? Madame Aldjéria can fix things up. The lady who has taken the name of the country will stop at nothing to survive in today's Algeria and to follow her dream : to become the owner of the Baths of Caracalla.

Length of the film : 2h20
