This two-part documentary looks back at the political regime set up by Vichy in the West Indies, including the role of Admiral Robert, its local representative.

In 1940, the elite and the Gaullist West Indian working classes took a dim view of the Vichy takeover via Admiral Robert. This high commissioner in the West Indies, surrounded by brutal and petanist officers, is establishing a dictatorship in the tropics.

1942: Hundreds of Guadeloupians and Martiniquais enter into dissent. Faced with the arbitrary arrests of the Vichyst regime, they will leave their islands in small boats to return to the Gaullists on neighbouring islands. For those who remain, the insurrection comes in the spring of 1943...
