Tras recorrer 100.000 kilómetros por aire (cos sus dos aviones anfibios, Osa's Ark, con rayas de cebra, y Spirit of Africa, con manchas de jirafa), tierra y agua, los Johnson se aventuraron en las selvas más oscuras y profundas de África. Martin filmó a Osa rodeada de una manada de leones, y juntos capturaron impresionantes escenas de una colonia de babuinos, que le da nombre a la película. Martin filmed Osa surrounded by a pride of lions and together they captured amazing scenes of a baboon colony, which gives the movie its name. Famous shots from the movie include the first ever aerial pictures of the tops of Africa's tallest peaks, Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya.
