Nine weeks of "classes" and training for the draftees and enlisted men at the Fort Knox military base in Kentucky: obstacle courses, firing M16s, fighting with bayonets, poison gas, charges, night marches and ideological indoctrination. Not a minute is wasted in turning civilian teenagers, fresh out of school, into hardened soldiers ready for combat, in this case in Vietnam. A film that greatly inspired Stanley Kubrick for his Full Metal Jacket.
