The unknown story about Afro-descendent contributions in Italian cinema - a diversity Call-to Action.

A documentary that puts itself on the path of different waves of pioneers of African descent who, since the beginning of the 1900s, have worked in Italian Cinema-The first Black man appeared in the 1913 film, Baldassarre Negroni's "Zuma the Gypsy".

A documentary that explores the careers, identities and triumphs of an obscure and rarely recognized class of European entertainers: Black actors in Italian cinema, about African italian actors such as Zeudi Araya, Ines Pellegrini, Iris Peynado, Fiona May, Denny Mendéz, Letizia Sedrick, Bobby Rhodes, Livio Beshir, Salvatore Marino, Jonis Bascir, Germano Gentile, Hedy Krissane and more. These names represent only the tip of the iceberg: there are indeed hundreds of actors who have taken part in Neorealistic films, in historical and mythological movies, inthe popular commedia anni'60 (comedies that came out in the 60s), in the police flicks of the 70's, in all other sorts of comedies (including commedia sexy all'italiana, sex comedy Italian style), or who have become part of the collective Italian memory for their TV appearances (among them we find Lola Falana, Rocky Roberts, Sammy Barbot and more).
BlaxploItalian is a film that poignantly describes the struggles that Afro-Italian and African diasporic actors experienced and continue to experience in contemporary Italian society in their search forroles of greater significance on the cinematic screen.

"Blaxploitalian" is such important work. It continues the conversation about Blacks in the west. It joins forces with W.E.B. DuBois and double-consciousness, Paul Gilroy and the Black Atlantic, Stuart Hall, and many other scholars and filmmakers who speak about being Black both inside and outside of the west"

A worldly story spanning over one-hundred years, which starting from silent and colonial films, goes all the way up to contemporary Italian Cinema-recounting the contributions of African American actors, who resided in Italy for many years, such as, John Kitzmiller (Roberto Rossellini's "Paisa'"), Harold Bradley ("Maciste"), Fred Williamson ("Warriors of Westland", The Inglorious Bastard", by E. Castellari and others), as well as the contributions of Afro-Italians, such as: Livio Beshir, Zeudi Araya, Ines Pellegrini, Iris Peynado, Fiona May, Denny Mendez, Bobby Rhodes, Salvatore Marino, Jonis Bascir, Germano Gentile, and many others.

These names only represent the tip of the iceberg: In fact, there are hundreds of actors who performed in neorealist films, sword and sandal films, comedies of the 1960s, cop dramas of the 1970s, as well as the more or less racy comedies a la italiana, who left a mark on the collective memory of the Italian people, with their passing over to the small screen-however, without being recognized by The Italian Mainstream.

A campaign of sensitization directed at Italian and world mass media, is associated with this film, to overcome the stereotypical images that usually represent Black Italians and other ethnic minorities, and to initiate a real process of inclusion within Italian mini-series and Cinema, which values peoples' differences.

Just some weeks ago, Black British actors, as well as, actors from Latin America held a conference in the United Kingdom, (which included speakers like Idris Elba, to name a few), demanding more diversity on both the big and little screens.

Blaxploitalian is a call to action, so that a worldwide audience can be able to engage the mainstream, bringing about serious change, in many countries, where multiculturalism i.e. ethnic and racial diversity, is underrepresented within both Film and Television Industries, nationally and internationally.
