Nigeria is Africa's main oil exporter in and its sub-soil is rich in diamonds, yet the majority of its 140 million inhabitants live on less than a dollar a day. Femi Kuti, son of the great Fela, is the worthy heir to Afro-Beat, yet his fame in the music world goes far beyond Nigeria. In 2006, he recorded a new album in Paris, without a record company, and surrounded by musicians and technicians who volunteered their participation.
