The most commercially successful film in Brazilian history, Elite Squad 2 tells the story of Nascimento (Wagner Moura), the leader of a military police unit in Rio de Janeiro. When he mismanages a prison riot, Nascimento is reassigned to an intelligence job. In his new position he uncovers a massive web of corruption, leading from the police department to the highest levels of government. But rooting out the offending parties and getting them behind bars is not going to happen without a fight.
While Elite Squad 2 is filled with chase scenes and shootouts, director Jose Padilha gives the narrative a richness and realism by locating the story in the context of Nascimento's personal life, particularly his tender relationship with his son.
Co-writer Braulio Mantovani was also the writer on City of God, and like that fi lm, Elite Squad 2 delivers an action film infused with a very real political anger.
Unlike most sequels Elite Squad 2 is self-contained and requires no knowledge of its predecessor, which won the Golden Bear in Berlin in 2008.
