Under the auspices of Rimbaud, Lautréamont, Dostoïevski and Benjamin, this film testifies to the iniquitous policies that have shaped our time, the "hellish" character of some political lives (those of migrants/immigrants, workers, the unemployed, students...).

The film is divided into five parts:
I. Niggers Wood (Je brûle comme il faut !),
II. Ballad For A Child (On ne te tuera pas plus que si tu étais cadavre),
III. Je me suis armé contre la justice (Burn ! Burn ! Burn !),
IV. Le Temps des assassins (Fire Music),
V. Tu resteras hyène etc. (The book of the damned).

Sylvain George, FRANCE, 2009, Black & white and Colour, Super 8, DV, 16mm, 135'

In four chapters, with lyrical titles borrowed from Rimbaud or other powerful voices, L'impossible moves from Calais to Paris, from black and white to colour, from silent to sound, from super 8 to video, from stifled words to free jazz, from winter snow to the recent lst May demonstrations, from bodies of migrants to a satirical tract against the volte-face of a ruling class. To pan wide, to gather food for eye and mind, such is the project. Because Sylvain George, as we have come to understand, perceives his film-making activity as a mission with at least a dual purpose. To claim, on the one hand the avant-gardes' formal inheritance, drawing on the unbridled vigour of their "logical revolts". On the other hand, get these manifestations to testify for those who cry out for justice and justly call for shots other than those laid down by prevailing standards. Evocative, though with precise dates and references, silent while at the same time in quest of the most just eloquence, this cinema seeks to bring together both the past (the Paris Commune, for example - an episode whose archives were destroyed, as we know; a revolution deprived of pictures - would seem to be an essential reference) and what is as yet unnamed. While current events urgently call for filmed material, going so far as to get shots tinged with red, such events cannot be satisfied with the present alone, strung as they are between what has been and what is to come, as the editing makes clear.
