Two children, Bassou, unique son of a rich landowner and Itto Titrit, unique daughter born out of marriage links, are neighbours and friends to the point that their mothers plan to marry them once they grow up.
When the mother of Itto wants to marry her daughter to a reformed of war, who came back from Indochina with a good pension, the two children decide to flee home, but they are caught up by a driver in the forest.
Itto gets married to that warrior and she is so brutally deflowered, in her bridal night, by her husband that she loses blood and dies.
