Self-identified President for life JeanClaude Duvalier is in power for nearly 10 years now. He took over his late father Dr François Duvalier who ruled over the country for 14 years. The Police and the Army form but one: neighbourhoods, streets, and alleys of cities countrywide are packed with spies. No one dares to criticize the government. Those who do are exposed to the authorities and forced to exil. The less fortunate are sent to jail, tortured and shot down. For complaining about the poor management in the water sector, Kamelo, a common citizen had to defend himself violently against a Tonton Makout (a militian).
