Massinissa, was chief of the Numidian and the Aguellides cavalry. The capitals of Massaesyles and Massinissa, respectively Siga and Cirta, were prosperous and powerful economic centers. Under his reign, the Algerian state developed agriculture by settling nomadic populations, founded towns, organized an efficient administration, set up a highly equipped army and gave an unprecedented boost to arts and culture.
