When the Communist Party came to power in 1948 a period of harsh authoritarian rule followed in Czechoslovakia which was symbolised by the fabricated trials of alleged traitors. Using an extensive picture archive, texts from the period and the filmmakers' own reflections, this film successfully evokes the atmosphere of a country where political manipulation inevitably interferes with people's lives.
