This talk show, presented under the umbrella title of "Sesame Street," discusses the plight of people afflicted with the AIDS disease and/or the HIV virus in South Africa. In this episode, host Fezile Mpela talks to three families in the studio, with each discusssion preceded by a film about how AIDS/HIV affected their lives. In the first segment, a woman realizes that she's been neglecting her teen-age daughter since she's also caring for a six-year-old grandson who is HIV-positive. After getting help from a social worker, the woman learns to balance her family responsibilities more equitably. In the second segment, an HIV-positive mother, who has infected her second husband with the virus, seeks the best way to tell her six-year-old daughter about her condition. In addition, she makes progress with an older daughter who has remained emotionally isolated from the family. In the final segment, a 17-year-old girl taking care of her four brothers learns how to make the younger boys aware of the fact that their mother died of AIDS. Then, the five siblings attempt to come to terms with their loss. A promotional ad for the episode follows. Cataloging of this program was made possible by The New York Times Company Foundation.

In November 2004 Takalani Sesame presents "Talk to Me…" campaign was launched in South Africa. The campaign culminated on December 1st with a one-hour television special featuring three South African families dealing with issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. The purpose of this entire campaign, and of the television special in particular, is to present models for effective communication with which to speak to children of various age groups about the disease. It promotes communication between adults and children, increases knowledge about the disease as a means to decrease fear, discrimination, and stigma, and helps children cope and protect themselves against the disease. Takalani Sesame is an affiliate of Sesame Workshop in the U.S. and Kwasukasukela in South Africa. The partnership has created a multi-media educational program modeled on Sesame Street, presenting a rich educational program, primarily for pre-schoolers.

TAKALANI SESAME PRESENTS "TALK TO ME…" was directed by Bronwyn Berry and Jahmil Qubeka. Berry and Naila Farouky served as producers, with Indra de Lanerolle as executive producer for Kwasukasukela and Robert Knezevic as project director for Sesame Workshop. Kyle Fulton served as editor and Felize Mpela as host. For addressing one of the most pressing issues in today's South Africa with sensitivity and respect for its audience, a Peabody Award is presented to Takalani Sesame Presents "Talk to Me…"

won the 2006 Peabody Award for best Actuality Programming.
