The Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour was in the 1989 "Human Rights Now" world tour, in which he sang his own composition "Nelson Mandela". In this film, we see preparation for the concert at Bercy, in Paris. The film consists in large part too of an interview by Peter Gabriel. Intercut with the interview is footage of N'Dour with his family, on the streets of Dakar, performing in a club. N'dour discusses his growing international reputation in relation to his own country. He recognizes the imperatives of western record companies but he still believes Dakar is his most fruitful workbase.
