At the closing of the 27th edition of Fespaco on Saturday 23 October 2021 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, the juries proclaimed the awards in the different categories of films in competition. The Yennenga gold standard went to Ahmed Khadar from Somalia with his film "The Gravedigger's Wife". He succeeds Rwanda's Joel Karekezi with his film "The Mercy of the Jungle" in 2019.
The new general delegate, Alex Moussa Sawadogo, insisted on the novelties of this edition, starting with the professional space which allowed exchanges, networking and skills improvement. The MICA (film market) was repatriated to the Fespaco headquarters, which confirmed its importance and enabled it to fulfil its role. The 32 papers from the symposium will be published. 1500 film professionals, 100 friendly festivals, 1200 media professionals and the various juries were present. The artistic project was accomplished.
"Not everything was perfect, of course, but the glimmers we saw in the eyes of the festival-goers showed that the goal had been reached. The 28th edition of Fespaco will be held from 25 February to 4 March 2023.
