Since 2007, artistic director Alex Moussa Sawadogo and his festival team have regularly enriched the German and Berlin film landscape with outstanding productions from African countries and the diaspora with AFRIKAMERA - Current Cinema from Africa, working closely with international film initiatives and festivals.

At the end of 2020, the Ministry of Culture of Burkina Faso appointed Sawadogo, who comes from there, as the new director of the FESPACO Festival panafricain du cinéma et de la télévision de Ouagadougou, one of the oldest and most important festivals on the African continent. The new director tied a series of innovative changes and innovations in the festival structure to this task in order to consolidate FESPACO's reputation internationally.

A wonderful occasion to intensify the existing German-Burkinese cultural cooperation beyond Schlingensief's opera village, also for the genre of film, and thus to continue the transcultural exchange!

With the kind support of the German Foreign Office, a delegation of multipliers from Berlinale, DOKfest München, Afrika Film Festival Köln, GERMAN FILMS, Humboldt Forum, AG Dok, Rushlake Media Distribution, Vision Kino Netzwerk für Film- und Medienkompetenz, Extra Vista Film & TV and others will travel to Ouagadougou under the coordination of the AFRIKAMERA team to initiate new collaborations and strengthen existing ones. One focus will be on co-productions, also in the field of children's and youth film, and on improving the perception and distribution of African productions in Germany. German productions will also be presented for the first time at the festival in the official programme and competition, which is why the multi-award-winning film directors Ines Johnson-Spain (Becoming Black, 2019), Jide Tom Akinleminu (When a farm goes aflame, 2021) and Daniel Kötter (Rift Finfinnee, 2020), among others, will be represented. Other German productions will be presented as part of the international film market MICA.

Deutsch-Burkinische Kulturallianz im Rahmen des FESPACO, 16.-23.10.2021, Ouagadougou

Seit 2007 bereichern der künstlerische Leiter Alex Moussa Sawadogo und sein Festivalteam mit AFRIKAMERA - Aktuelles Kino aus Afrika regelmäßig die deutsche und Berliner Filmlandschaft mit herausragenden Produktionen aus den afrikanischen Ländern und der Diaspora und arbeiten dabei eng mit internationalen Filminitiativen und Festivals zusammen.

Ende 2020 berief das Kulturministerium von Burkina Faso den von dort stammenden Sawadogo als neue Leitung des FESPACO Festival panafricain du cinéma et de la télévision de Ouagadougou, eines der ältesten und wichtigsten Festivals auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent. Der neue Leiter knüpfte eine Reihe von innovativen Veränderungen und Neuerungen in der Festivalstruktur an diese Aufgabe, um das Renommé des FESPACO auch international zu verstetigen.

Ein schöner Anlass, die bestehende deutsch-burkinische kulturelle Zusammenarbeit über Schlingensiefs Operndorf hinaus auch für das Genre Film zu intensivieren und damit den transkulturellen Austausch fortzuführen!

Mit der freundlichen Unterstützung des Auswärtigen Amtes wird daher eine Delegation aus Multiplikator*innen von Berlinale, DOKfest München, Afrika Film Festival Köln, GERMAN FILMS, Humboldt Forum, AG Dok, Rushlake Media Distribution, Vision Kino Netzwerk für Film- und Medienkompetenz, Extra Vista Film & TV u.a. unter der Koordination des AFRIKAMERA-Teams nach Ouagadougou reisen, um neue Kollaborationen zu initiieren und bestehende zu festigen. Ein Fokus liegt dabei auf Koproduktionen, auch im Bereich Kinder- und Jugendfilm und auf der Verbesserung der Wahrnehmung und Distribution afrikanischer Produktionen in Deutschland. Ebenso sollen erstmals deutsche Produktionen auf dem Festival im offiziellen Programm und Wettbewerb vorgestellt werden, daher werden auch u.a. die mehrfach ausgezeichneten Filmregisseur*innen Ines Johnson-Spain (Becoming Black, 2019), Jide Tom Akinleminu (When a farm goes aflame, 2021) und Daniel Kötter (Rift Finfinnee, 2020) vertreten sein. Weitere deutsche Produktionen werden im Rahmen des internationalen Filmmarket MICA vorgestellt.
