Catharsis is the first Drama Therapy center in Lebanon and in the Arab Region. It is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 operating under the direction of Zeina Daccache, Registered Drama Therapist with the North American Drama Therapy Association- NADTA, USA.

Catharsis is founded on the belief that the incorporation of drama and expressive arts in therapy is an effective and empowering method for problem solving, promoting growth and wellbeing within individuals and groups; and that the arts can build bridges between cultures and different segments of society.

We also believe that the therapeutic use of drama allows for an active role in healing one's self in a safe environment where one is accepted, not judged and able to express him or herself.

Our mission is to offer drama therapy services to the community in accordance with the highest ethical standards, providing a powerful tool to explore and deal effectively with the issues identified by a wide range of clients, including some of the most isolated and disadvantaged members of the society.

In several cases, but not always, the Drama Therapy sessions can result in an artistic product-such as the pioneering project "12 Angry Lebanese" presented by the inmates of Roumieh prison in 2009/2010 - that gives special populations a tool for self-advocacy, thereby communicating their message to the society and decision makers.

For us to fulfill our mission we are building professional capabilities in the field of Drama Therapy, providing training and guidance to aspiring Drama Therapists in Lebanon and the Arab region.

Our programs

- Drama Therapy for special populations, whether independently or in collaboration with other NGOs, we work with marginalized and disadvantaged populations and communities in crisis, such as survivors of trauma, substance abusers, prison inmates, individuals with mental illness, refugees, survivors of abuse, older adults and at-risk youth, etc.
- Drama Therapy for individuals and groups who desire to explore life transitions, adjustments, and various growth issues from a wellness perspective.
- Drama Therapy professional training and internships for individuals wishing to pursue a career in drama therapy. We offer courses, workshops, mentoring and supervision services applied toward Registry in Drama Therapy.
- Drama Therapy workshops for corporations who wish to increase the productivity of their staff, help them alleviate stress and enhance their interpersonal and communication skills, as well as engage them in team building events for an improved working environment.
